To the editor:
Like so many other coastal towns, Lincoln City is facing complex, ongoing needs that require experienced and proven leadership. I believe Susan Wahlke is that leader.
In her first term, she has proven her skills and extensive knowledge with her successful and collaborative work on increasing affordable workforce housing, enhancing pedestrian safety, balancing tourism and residents’ quality of life, creating more parks and playgrounds, and supporting effective policing.
Mayor Wahlke also has the trust and respect of the business community because she understands their issues. She is well known for her ability to collaborate with and reach agreement on what can be a diverse set of agendas and perspectives in our city. I have been especially impressed with her ability to be a calm, reasonable, and informed part of City Council discussions, helping to build consensus and reach fair and just resolutions on complex issues.
With her many years of experience as a city councilor and a member of the Budget Committee as well as her involvement with local volunteer organizations, Susan Wahlke leads from a place of keen awareness of what the people of Lincoln City need and want. She is an excellent listener, attentive to the needs of our community and committed to enhancing livability for everyone in Lincoln City, from seniors to workers to youth to small businesses. We need that deep awareness to guide Lincoln City in the future.
That is why I am voting for her on Nov. 3. I invite you to join me.
