Lincoln County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.8 percent in May, unchanged from April, the Oregon Employment Department announced this week. The county’s jobless rate 5.9 percent the year before.
Oregon’s statewide unemployment rate was 5.2 percent in May, and the national rate was 4.3 percent.
Seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment in Lincoln County increased in May by 10 to 18,520 jobs, according to regional economist Shaun Barrick. Seasonally adjusted figures compare expected changes with actual changes. A gain of 300 jobs was expected for the month, Barrick said, and the county’s total nonfarm employment increased by 310, with a gain of 290 jobs in the private sector and a gain of 20 jobs in total government employment.
Nondurable goods manufacturing added 130 jobs, leisure and hospitality added 110 jobs and local education added 30 jobs, the monthly report said.
May’s total nonfarm employment numbers were down 130 jobs over the year. The largest yearly gain occurred in food services and drinking places, which rose by 110 jobs. But trade, transportation, and utilities lost 70 jobs and federal government lost 30 jobs, Barrick said.
