YACHATS — Well, the big events are now set for Yachats’ Fourth of July celebration so now the rest of the three-day weekend needs filling in.
The Yachats Chamber of Commerce announced this week that the La de da Parade will kick off at noon Monday, July 4. The chamber had been debating the best day to hold it – after helping rescue the fireworks show, which will be at 10 p.m. Saturday, July 2.
As with the fireworks show, the quirky, homemade parade had been cancelled the past two years because of the coronavirus pandemic. Until then, it had wound through the streets of Yachats for 24 years.
“Everyone was used to it on July Fourth … and we wanted to have some continuity,” said chamber president Linda Hetzler. “This will give some activity for the whole weekend.”
The Yachats Chamber of Commerce’s website will have parade entry signup information.
Hetzler said the chamber is looking to organize some musical entertainment Saturday afternoon and evening before the fireworks show.
The Yachats Farmers Market usually runs both Saturday and Sunday during the holiday weekend, and the Friends of Yachats Library plan a summer book sale on Sunday.
Other July 4th holiday events in Yachats usually include a duck race down the Yachats River sponsored by Yachats Youth and Family Activities Program and the Yachats Lions Club breakfast. YYFAP said its duck race will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 4 following the parade. The Lions Club said this week it plans to resume its breakfast, but still need to decide which day.
The city of Yachats decided this month to fund the fireworks show by allocating $25,000 to the chamber to pay for it. But the schedule by fireworks provider Western Display of Canby was full, so the show date was moved to Saturday, July 2.
