Lincoln County has extended its deadline to Aug. 15 for applications to its community service grants for nonprofit organizations.
Since 2017 the grants have averaged $180,000 annually, typically divided between about 20 organizations. The grant reflects the county’s recognition that local nonprofits are critical partners in meeting community needs and offers general operating funding that organizations can use where it is most needed, according to a news release.
To qualify an organization must be a 501(c)3 providing social services in the county that respond to community needs. Applications are reviewed by a local, volunteer review committee which makes recommendations to county commissions.
The new deadline to apply is midnight, Aug. 15.
The county has a long list of criteria the committee and commissioners generally use to review applications including that the organization is a provider of direct social services, has a record of service, that there is evidence of need and community support, avoids duplication of services from governmental or other nonprofit agencies, and coordinates services with other agencies.
While there is no limit on the amount of an individual award, grants are typically between $5,000 and $10,000, according to the county’s news release.
Organizations can apply for the grant via the county website. For questions, contact public information officer Kenneth Lipp at [email protected] or 541-265-4100.
