NEWPORT – The Lincoln Chronicle’s staff is inviting Newport-area residents to the first of three community meetings Tuesday evening to hear more about its operations, plans and the state of local news in Oregon.
The community meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, in the main meeting room of the Newport Recreation Center, 225 S.E. Avery St. Light refreshments will be available.
The Lincoln Chronicle is published by the 6½-year-old nonprofit YachatsNews, which changed its website’s name in late March to reflect the hiring of an additional reporter and wider coverage of news in Lincoln County.
During the meetings, Lincoln Chronicle editor Quinton Smith will talk briefly about the news organization’s history, operations, local news philosophy, the state of local news in Oregon, introduce Chronicle reporters Garret Jaros and Shayla Escudero, and answer questions from the audience.
A second Newport-area community meeting is planned for 3 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at the Newport Public Library, 35 N.W. Nye St.
For south county residents, there is also a community meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, June 19 in the Civic meeting room of the Yachats Commons.
