Lincoln County is losing its only Joann’s craft store as the crafting and fabrics retailer shutters hundreds of stores nationwide, including its store in Lincoln City and 14 others around Oregon.
On Wednesday, the company filed a motion in bankruptcy court, seeking to close around 533 of its 800 locations in the U.S. The initial list includes at least one location from each state, except for Hawaii. This is the second time Joann has declared bankruptcy in less than 12 months.
In its statement, Joann said it is looking to “right-size its store footprint.”
The closure dates were not announced.
The states with the most stores closing include California with 61; Florida, 36; Pennsylvania, 33; Ohio, 33; and Michigan, 33. Joann developed from a single storefront in Ohio in 1943, expanding to a national chain. In Washington, over 20 stores are expected to close.
In addition to the Lincoln City store, other Joann closures in Oregon include outlets in Albany, Corvallis, Beaverton, Clackamas, Grants Pass, Hillsboro, Klamath Falls, McMinnville, North Bend, Oregon City, Redmond, Springfield, The Dalles and Warrenton.
Well they ran Fabric Depot out of business and now they’re leaving. Reminds me of Staples.
