The Yachats Academy of Arts and Sciences presents Creighton “Creight” Horton,  at 6:30 p.m. Sunday,  Aug. 25 in the Yachats Commons.  Horton will speak about his 30 years of experiences as a prosecutor in the Salt Lake City  District Attorney’s Office and  the Utah State Attorney General’s Office.  He prosecuted a number of high-profile cases, some of which are still in the public eye today. Third St. Homemade baked goods — including a variety of mini pies — join tables of handcrafted items, from knitted scarves, hats, sweaters and blankets to pet goods, jewelry, homemade soaps and more. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1, benefiting the club’s scholarship fund for students in nursing and education at Oregon Coast Community College, as well as local service organizations. The prize is a handcrafted quilt, with a drawing at the club’s December holiday bazaar.

    Yachats Lions Club Labor Day Pancake Breakfast: 7:30-11:00 a.m., Lions Hall, 344 W. Fourth St. A fundraising tradition for the service group, this all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham, milk, orange juice and coffee. Suggested donation is $10. Club volunteers will be serving up the ample fare, aided by students from nearby Angell Job Corps. This year, proceeds will benefit the Lions Club’s support of scholarships at Waldport High School.
