A 16-year-old artist from Florence has been selected by Rep. Val Hoyle, D-Ore. as the 4th Congressional District’s 2025 Congressional Art Competition.
Teakki Legg is a student at Siuslaw High School. He credited his art teacher, Lauren Suveges, and John Leasure at the Florence Regional Arts Alliance for helping him and encouraging him to enter the competition. Teakki is the son of Roanne and Brandt Legg.
Legg’s oil painting is called “Shining Light” and he said it was inspired by lighthouses at Heceta Head north of Florence and Yaquina Head near Newport.
“The lighthouse is a metaphor to illuminate possibilities and connection in the world, which sometimes can feel dark, but there’s always a light to go toward,” Legg said in a news release from Hoyle’s office announcing his selection.
“Teakki Legg’s artistry and attention to detail stood out with his entry into this year’s competition … ,” Hoyle said in the release.
Legg and other winners have their artwork featured in the U.S. Capitol for one year and receive a round-trip ticket to Washington, D.C. for themselves and a parent or guardian to be recognized at an annual awards ceremony when the art is displayed.
