YACHATS – The city of Yachats won an award for excellence during the League of Oregon Cities’ spring conference for its collaboration model.
The award, which recognizes progressive and innovative city operations and services, was also presented to the cities of Pendleton and Medford.
In a news release, the league said “Yachats has shown how a small city can execute multi-million-dollar improvements through innovative service delivery. “
The award said the city’s aggressive grant-seeking and private philanthropy allowed it to “convert every $1 of local tax money into $3 of community value …” It cited Yachats’ new $1.35 million library, which was financed by money from the city’s urban renewal district, private bequests, and foundation grants and using grants, partnerships and bequests to plan and build a boardwalk along Ocean View Drive and rebuild the Little Log Church Museum.
The League of Oregon Cities represents all 241 of Oregon’s incorporated cities and helps them with legislative services, policy setting, intergovernmental relations, conferences and training, technical assistance and publications.
