YACHATS — One hundred containers filled with tasty treats will be delivered to local individuals, civic groups and businesses on Valentine’s Day, thanks to a “sweet” collaboration between two service groups.
The Yachats Lions and Yachats Ladies Clubs will be surprising city staffers, volunteers and businesses with decorated bags and boxes of homemade cookies. The treat surprises are part of a national event conducted by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
The cookies are made, packaged and delivered by members of the Lions and Ladies Clubs, a collaboration that began 10 years ago. Deliveries stalled during the pandemic, but the tradition was re-started in 2023.
Each package contains a card explaining that the two clubs “… want to say ‘thank you’ for the many acts of kindness that you have demonstrated in our community.”
In a press release, the two organizations said the partnership goal is “to spread a bit of joy throughout our community.”
The Yachats Ladies Club, established in 1927, provides goodies for a range of community events throughout the year. Through fundraising efforts, the club donates to area charities and provides scholarships at Oregon Coast Community College.
The Yachats Lions serves Yachats and south Lincoln County with regular community events and helps fund student scholarships and community organizations.
