Summer swings in with three live bands at the Yachats Commons Pavilion from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, June 20.
The “Summer Solstice Shuffle” from Polly Plumb Productions heralds the first day of summer — the longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere — with free music and popcorn.
“It’s going to be a wonderful afternoon,” predicted Robert Rubin, a member of the Polly Plumb board of directors. “We’re asking people to walk over, if possible, and bring lawn chairs to listen and dance in the grassy areas around the Pavilion and on the adjacent parking lot.”
Scheduled performers are Barbara Lee and Franki T at 1 p.m., the June Rushing Quartet at 2:15, and Weird Science Boyz at 3:30 p.m.
“Yachats is oriented to the equinox and solstices, historically,” Rubin said. While pandemic restrictions quashed last winter’s Solstice Bonfire, also a Polly Plumb production, the non-profit group did stage a “Spring Equinox Stroll” this year in the downtown area.
The free party will follow the Lincoln County Health Department’s coronavirus guidelines. The bands will be socially distanced within the pavilion to protect the musicians, and organizers expect the event to be optional “mask-free” for vaccinated attendees, probably on an honor system, according to Rubin.
On that same day, the Yachats Farmers Market will be going on, Rubin said, and “We hope the two events feed off each other.”
Beer and food prepared by Drift Inn will be available for purchase. Polly Plumb Productions is a non-profit that promotes music and dance performances and art exhibitions in the Yachats area.
