Creativity al fresco will be on view in Yachats and surrounding areas this month, thanks to the Sandgren Annual Oregon Coast PaintOut and workshops.
For the 45th consecutive year, the event will gather painters outdoors for two different programs: a workshop (already full) offering three days of paid instruction and critique, and the PaintOut, open to everyone.
Beginning Monday, July 10 and concluding July 22, “serious painters of all levels of experience are welcome,” to paint in the great outdoors, according to organizer/artist Erik Sandgren of Portland. No advance registration or payment is required for PaintOut-ers, who usually gather in groups of 20-30.
PaintOut-ers are encouraged to work anywhere they wish (the project goes on rain or shine), and gather with their daily work at the review sites indicated (below) at 4:30 p.m. For more on the event, visit Sandgren’s website.
Sandgren is the son of Nelson Sandgren, a noted painter and art professor at Oregon State University. The elder Sandgren launched the PaintOut in 1978, continuing through his retirement in 2004, when his son took over.
