If you’ve ever considered teaching a class based on a skill, favorite subject, passion, or hobby, now’s the perfect time to give it a shot.
Oregon Coast Community College is seeking proposals for its fall Community Education classes from artists, tinkerers, and everyday experts eager to share what they love — with no teaching experience required. Selected classes will be offered as part of the college’s Fall 2025 community education lineup.
The college says the community education classes gives local instructors the chance to make a difference by turning their know-how into hands-on, skill-building experiences that foster lifelong learning.
In recent years, the college has offered everything from Introduction to Boat Building to Mushroom Foraging, to Turkish History and Culture to Gyotaku Fish Printing. The courses can also be lively and fun, such as past classes on hip-hop dancing, or our “Speakeasy Series,” which featured a trio of classes covering Home Brewing, the History of Jazz, and How to Play Craps.
Community education instructors set their own schedules, choose their locations, and decide exactly how they want to teach. That might mean leading a one-day workshop or multi-week series at any of the college’s three locations or running an off-site class like last spring’s bike repair course at the Green Bike Co-Op in Waldport.
Prospective instructors need to submit class proposals to the college via its website or contact the college’s office of community engagement and Dave Price at Dave.price@oregoncoast.edu, or Lesley Melrose-High at Lesley.melrosehigh@oregoncoast.edu
