A Waldport High School senior has been awarded one of two $10,000 scholarships from OnPoint Credit Union as part of a statewide program honoring 2026 graduates who have good grades, participate in varsity sports and serve their community.
The program awards two $10,000 scholarships and four $5,000 scholarships. Since its launch in 2019, OnPoint and the Oregon School Activities Association have awarded more than $180,000 to support the post-graduation goals of 43 Oregon students.
Waldport senior Kiana McNeil was one of two top winners, joining Natalie Kawaguchi of Mountainside High School in Beaverton.
McNeil will be Waldport High’s valedictorian in June, was named to the 2A-3 Valley Coast Conference girls basketball team first-team, officiates youth basketball games and helped organize a youth basketball camp.
“During her senior season, McNeil faced personal adversity when her father was diagnosed with cancer,” OnPoint said in a release announcing the award. “Despite this, she continued to lead her team to success …”
Winners of the $5,000 scholarships came from Woodburn, Klamath Union, Enterprise and Astoria high schools.
Recipients were selected based on letters of recommendation, academic achievement, personal essays highlighting their leadership, community involvement and the impact of OSAA activities on their goals. The Portland-based OnPoint credit union is the title sponsor of Oregon high school state championships.

Congratulations, Kiana! I hope to see you in an important leadership role in our area in a few years.
Way to go Kiana!
