WALDPORT – A foundation that supports the work of the city of Waldport’s library raised $1,700 from its annual fundraising tea April 18.
The Waldport Library Foundation is trying to raise $50,000 toward the construction of a new city library. Organizers say the latest effort has it topping $48,000 in its effort.
There were 45 people in attendance and 20 volunteers at the event in the Waldport Community Center. The foundation was able to defray all of its expenses by using a $1,500 grant from the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contributions Fund. The event included music by harpist Gary Plouff, a Scottish tea story by library volunteer Sharon McCrum and a presentation by attorney Bruce McCrum on trusts, endowments and tax benefits for foundation gifts.
Newly appointed library director Allison Kalnins-McGrath also talked about the city’s efforts to move forward with a new building to replace the current, 100-year-old structure in downtown Waldport.
