Waldport man in jail on multiple felony accusations of assault

WALDPORT — A 40-year-old Waldport man is being held on $250,000 bond for allegedly assaulting his wife on multiple occasions, strangling her and blackening her eyes with a cell phone.

Jacob P. Reimer was arraigned Monday in Lincoln County Circuit Court on seven charges, including a Class B felony count of second-degree assault with a weapon, as well as two Class C felonies, unlawful use of a weapon and strangulation. He pleaded not guilty.

According to an  affidavit by  Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Garrett Brawdy, he was dispatched to Reimer’s home on Willow Street about 7:30 p.m. Sunday on Reimer’s wife’s report of a physical altercation. She told Brawdy they’d been married about a year and “the physical abuse had gotten to be too much to handle.”

Earlier that day, she said, Reimer threw her against the wall, choked her until she saw stars, then dragged her to the bed by her hair and climbed on top of her. She had to squeeze Reimer’s groin to escape, believing she would be hurt worse if she did not, she told the deputy. She also said she was afraid to report the incident earlier because Reimer threatened to take her daughter away.

In his affidavit, Brawdy said he noted visible red marks and bruising on the woman’s neck, chest and shoulders, as well as what appeared to be healing black eyes. She told him the black eyes were from a Nov. 28 incident in which Reimer threw her to the ground, hit her in the face with the end of his cell phone and again dragged her into the bedroom by her hair.

According to Brawdy’s affidavit, the woman showed him photos of her black eyes and told him she lied to another deputy who called her about the incident, which was reported by a co-worker in whom she confided. She told that deputy she got the black eyes in a car wreck, she said, because Reimer threatened to leave with her child and never return.

Reimer’s wife told Brawdy she was afraid of Reimer and that he controlled their car, apartment and finances. The deputy gave her a victim’s rights card and advised her to go to the hospital to be evaluated for possible internal injuries.

Brawdy arrested Reimer about three hours later at a residence in Newport. Reimer denied assaulting or strangling his wife, and showed the deputy a video from earlier in the day in which she appeared to be hitting him. According to the court document, the deputy believed the video was taken after Reimer choked his wife, as he thought her voice at the beginning sounded muffled or restrained

Reimer is in the Lincoln County Jail and scheduled to appear in court Dec. 19 for a probable cause hearing.

  1. I am the victim’s older daughter; she is getting evicted in less than five days because of the incident. She is struggling finding a place to stay. She has a 1 month old. If there is anyway anyone can help her out.

    • Use the domestic violence/victim’s advocate staff in the Lincoln County district attorney’s office. This is exactly what they do.

  2. Sa-da-munn will use the excuse that they need Reimer because they do not have any maintenance people to keep Sa-da-munn clean and cleared. She needs to go to housing authority for emergency housing or a women’s shelter until she can get on her feet and to get away from Sa-da-munn. She needs her pride and herself back the way she was before … The board members are the bosses there.
