WALDPORT – After all the drama Thursday evening with the expulsion and citation of former mayor Heide Lambert for disorderly conduct, the Waldport city council did tackle a short list of financial-related agenda items during its regular monthly meeting.

The council agreed to continue a contract with the Lincoln County Sheriff to provide patrol services in the city, a service that the city has used since 1997. The new contract is for the sheriff to provide 1½ deputies for the city at a cost of $286,461 – a 4.3 percent increase over the current contract, mostly due to a cost-of-living increase bargained by the deputies’ union.

Waldport has shared the cost of one deputy – therefore the one-half – with the city of Yachats since last July. The Yachats city council is considering its portion of the contract — $95,000 — on Wednesday.

In other business the council:

Approved the sale of one of two residential lots it created from its purchase of the large former Ball property parcel at the end of Rolph Court in Township 13. The proceeds are to be used to recoup the cost of the Ball purchase, which was needed to protect city water and sewer infrastructure;
Approved a 5.32 percent increase in Dahl Disposal Service’s garbage rates to take effect July 1. Dahl operates under a franchise agreement that says its operating costs have to be within 85 percent to 91 percent of its income. In a memo to the city, Dahl said to hit its target 88 percent, the increase would be 8.87 percent “but in light of the current state of the economy” suggested a 5.32 percent increase. The increase means residential curbside rates will increase by $2.15 per month to $42.35, Dahl said in a worksheet to the council; and
Accepted an intergovernmental agreement with Lincoln County to allow the city’s contractor to begin work on sidewalks along portions of Crestline Drive prior to the working out other issues to enable the county to turn over ownership of the street to the city.
