YACHATS — Both award-winning musicians in their own rights, Terry Robb and Adam Scramstad are teaming up for a special performance at the Yachats Commons at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16.
Hailed as a blues guitar virtuoso and one of the finest acoustic guitarists on the international scene, the Portland-based Robb took home the Muddy Award for Best Acoustic Guitar so many times that the Cascade Blues Association finally broke down and attached his name to the trophy permanently.
Recognition for his artistry doesn’t stop there.
The Oregon Music Hall of Famer has been praised by Rolling Stone, Acoustic Guitar, Down Beat, Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar, Living Blues and Oprah’s O Magazine, extolling his talents as a finger-picker, singer-songwriter, arranger and producer.
He has toured the country with Steve Miller, Robin Trower and John Fahey, appeared on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” dazzled the crowd at the Rose Garden during Portland Trail Blazers games and collaborated with the Oregon Symphony. During his multi-decade run in the spotlight, in which he has released 15 acclaimed albums, he has shown himself to be a master of nearly every blues style and technique imaginable.
His work is also featured in Hollywood films, documentaries and biographies, such as “Game of Thrones,” “The Horse Whisperer” and “Dance of Death: The Life of John Fahey, American Guitarist.” He is associated with the American Primitive Guitar genre through his collaborations with Fahey, and is regarded as a virtuoso of acoustic blues guitar.
Scramstad is an acoustic/electric finger-style and blues musician, born and raised in Oregon. Performing regularly throughout the Pacific Northwest, his reputation as a professional blues guitarist and vocalist is rapidly becoming widespread.
A strong and creative songwriter in his own-right, his repertoire also covers a broad range of early American folk/glues artists’ works — such as: Son House, Bukka White, Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson and Lightning Hopkins.
Scramstad’s 2006 debut solo album, “No Sun Around Blues” climbed to number 33 on the Roots Music Radio blues chart. The CD is a mix of acoustic blues and finger-style guitar songs, and quickly became a favorite of local northwest radio stations. His music has been featured on the nationally syndicated “Blues Deluxe Show” as well as receiving regular airplay on many regional, national and international stations and shows.
- Saturday’s concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Yachats Commons. Tickets, $20, are available at www.tickettomato.com/event/9613.
