NEWPORT – A head-on collision between an SUV and pickup truck just south of the Siletz Bay bridge shortly before 9 a.m. Friday killed two Lincoln County residents.
Oregon State Police said James Versteeg, 46, of Gleneden Beach, was northbound in his Dodge Durango when it crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a Chevrolet Silverado operated by Lewis Ford, 41,of Lincoln City.
Police said Versteeg and Ford died at the scene from their injuries. The highway was closed for four hours.
In addition to state police, also responding were Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies, Lincoln City police, Depoe Bay Fire and North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Pacific West Ambulance and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel.
