TOLEDO – The city council has selected council president Tracy Mix as its mayor, replacing Rod Cross who resigned last month after his arrest stemming from an October slapping incident with a Toledo High School student. Cross had served four, two-year terms as mayor.
The council filled Cross’ position by electing Mix as mayor and then Frank Silva as council president, according to a news release from the city.
The city charter directs the council to elect a mayor from current council members, filling the rest of the term.
Mix was appointed to the council in December 2021 to fill a vacant position and was elected to a full term in November 2024.
Mix’s appointment creates a vacancy on the council, so the city has opened applications to fill that position. Toledo residents interested in applying for the position can submit an application, which is on the city’s website.
