GLENEDEN BEACH – A Depoe Bay skateboarder was killed Tuesday, Oct. 21, when he was struck by a commercial truck as he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 101 just north of Salishan, Oregon State Police said Thursday.
Police said Joseph W. Tallman, 35, of Depoe Bay, was struck and killed as he tried to cross the highway on his skateboard from the east shoulder. Tallman was struck by a northbound Mack commercial motor vehicle, whose was unable to avoid the collision, police said.
Tallman was declared dead after being taken to the hospital, police said.
The highway was impacted for approximately four hours during the investigation. State police said they were assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln City Police Department, North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

I knew him and so did my family, Joey was one of the most kind people I’ve ever met and he was a staple at the family gatherings we had. He came to my aunties and uncles holiday parties every year.. He was always there and it didn’t feel right if he wasn’t at them, the last I saw him was at the Fourth of July this year and he always played air-soft with the kids. Joey was a good man and he always will be.
