It’s still more than a week away but many people always wonder “When is the sheriff’s ‘Shred Day’?’’ Now we know – from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 6.
The event, where people can bring almost anything to get shredded for free, will be in the Lincoln County Courthouse parking lot, 225 W. Olive St., Newport.
The event is held in an effort to help residents combat identity theft and financial fraud, the sheriff’s office said in announcing the date. While the event is free and event open to the public, it is not intended for significant amounts of shredding by private businesses or other governments.
The sheriff’s office said people should bring paper documents, files, canceled checks, or any other document that contains your personal or sensitive information. The iSecure shredder also accept CDs and DVDs that contain personal or sensitive information.
The sheriff’s office offered one caution — once the iSecure truck is full, it will not be able to accept any more documents.
