The Lincoln County School District is seeking comments from the public as it begins to refine plans for new auditoriums at three high schools.
The $73.3 million bond that voters approved in May greenlighted construction projects across the district’s schools – including new auditoriums at Toledo Senior/Junior High School, Newport High School and Waldport Middle/High School.
Now, the district is seeking comment on acoustics, accessibility, seating, lighting and other features. The forums will be an opportunity to review plans, ask questions and meet with superintendent Majalise Tolan and facilities director Rich Belloni.
Three forums scheduled are:
- Toledo Jr./Sr. High School, 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17;
- Newport High School, 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24; (Spanish interpretation available); and
- Waldport Middle/High School, 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Initial plans during the district’s bond campaign envisioned auditoriums costing about $10 million each, with seating for up to 300 people and instructional areas included. The auditoriums would also be available for use by outside groups and organizations
For more information or to submit feedback in advance, email bondprojects@lincoln.k12.or.us or go to a district website at www.lincolncountyschoolbond.org.

Are auditoriums really the best use for our tax dollars? For many years, gyms were used as auditoriums. Wouldn’t our tax money be better spent on programs that directly benefit the children?

Before the pandemic, Oregon had one of the lowest state graduation rates, although it also has among the highest graduation standards, requiring 24 credits to graduate.
The national average graduation rate was 87% in 2021-22, the most recent year tabulated by the National Center for Education Statistics. Oregon’s rate was 81% that year.”
