Stranded whale’s circle of life ends with first ceremonial harvest by Siletz tribal members in generations

A young humpback whale that stranded itself north of Yachats last weekend ended up being harvested by members of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, a 12-hour effort that had not been attempted for generations. The tribe will now process some of the blubber and is deciding what to do with portions of the skeleton.

Police arrest college aquarium director on child abuse charges

Police arrested the director of Oregon Coast Community College’s aquarium science program on Tuesday and charged him with nine counts of encouraging child sex abuse after an 11-month investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon Department of Justice.

The Newport Armory was turned into an elegant dining hall Wednesday afternoon as South Beach Church staged its 11th annual The Day Before Thanksgiving Meal to any and everyone who had an appetite.
