A 61-year-old Otis man was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to criminally negligent homicide and two drug charges that led to the death of a woman in March 2025.

Lincoln County Circuit Court Judge Sheryl Bachart sentenced Steven J. Brady to 80 months prison for selling methamphetamine and fentanyl, which led to the overdose death of Debra L. Bernstein, 67, of Otis on March 11, 2025.
In a news release, the Lincoln County District attorney’s office said Lincoln City police began investigating Brady in 2024 after receiving reports he was selling methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Police used a warrant March 3, 2025, to search his property on North Deer Valley Road in Otis and seized more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, 11 grams of powdered fentanyl, and 270 counterfeit fentanyl pills. Eight days later, the district attorney’s office said, Brady sold counterfeit fentanyl pills to Bernstein, who overdosed and died. A probable cause affidavit at the time of Brady’s arrest said he was living in a trailer on Bernstein’s property.
Lincoln City police used a search warrant on Brady’s residence on March 20, 2025, and seized more methamphetamine, powdered fentanyl, counterfeit pills and $8,600 in cash, the district attorney’s office said.
Brady will be on probation for three years after serving his prison sentence.
