NEWPORT — The Port of Newport has filled a vacancy on its commission.
Jeff Lackey, who had served as a commissioner since 2017 resigned last month. With a term that ends June 30, 2029, the Port was tasked with filling the empty seat. The commission interviewed two applicants – Newport city recorder Allie Anderson-Brusasco and Port budget committee member Larry Osborne.
Osborne, who touted 65 years of management experience and 30 years working with the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce in Coos Bay was chosen during the commission’s Feb. 12 meeting.
“If selected, I will bring an impartial and objective view as a commissioner, as I have no direct connection or affiliation with any of the port’s current user groups,” Osborne’s application read.
He served as a committee member for the International Port of Coos Bay and the director and president of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. He worked with local, state and port officials identifying new economic development opportunities when timber and fishing were at a decline.
“In facing the current economic challenges, as well as the opportunities, I believe my business background and governmental experience could be beneficial to that success,” Osborne’s application said. “I would like to be a part of that effort.”
