Narrative Summary
On 5/6/21 at approximately 5PM a southbound green Subaru left the roadway and struck the Alsea Bay Bridge wall near milepost 155 of US Highway 101 near Waldport, Oregon. Vehicle suffered severe damage. Male driver and female passenger left the scene of the crash and walked southbound. The couple was contacted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies and detained on outstanding warrants. Oregon State Police took custody of the male driver. Driver exhibited signs of impairment. Numerous syringes with evidence of controlled substances were discovered around the crash scene. Driver arrested for DUI and Failure to Perform Duties of a driver. Coast Towing towed the vehicle.

I observed a motorcyclist passing vehicles unlawfully around this time a call came in from someone complaining about the same behavior on the motorcyclist. I caught up and stopped the motorcyclist. The operator was suspended misdemeanor and had said his girlfriend had just recently purchased the motorcycle. The driver was issued a criminal citation with a violation citation to appear in court.

E-Crash: The driver was southbound on US-101 near milepost 158 just south of Waldport and had begun going off the southbound shoulder. The driver overcorrected and crashed into trees along the northbound ditch. The driver was alone and had been unconscious when bystanders arrived. The driver was extricated by fire and medics and was transported to the hospital in Newport with moderate injuries. The vehicle was removed by Rowley’s Towing.

eCrash – On 5/13/21 at approximately 3:30AM a westbound vehicle (black GMC SUV) struck a bear carcass near milepost 4.5 of Highway 18 in Otis, Oregon. The driver swerved through the eastbound lane and into the ditch. The vehicle struck a driveway embankment, became airborne and landed on unit 2 (white Toyota Prius) and unit 3 (Gray Dodge Caravan). The vehicle rolled onto the wheels and came to rest facing southwest. Airbags deployed. Driver was transported by a friend to the hospital. ODOT was advised to recover the bear carcass. North Lincoln Fire assisted at the scene.
