Oregon Coast Community College is seeking instructors who possess in-depth knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for sharing their expertise and knowledge to teach non-credit courses this fall.
The college’s community education program serves as a platform for local residents to learn new skills, explore interests and foster connections. Past courses included shellfish ecology, Tahitian drumming, how to play craps and disaster preparedness.
The college is open to suggestions from would-be teachers interested in teaching about art, painting, music, writing, nature and environmental issues, local history, hobbies and more. No prior teaching experience is required. The pay is $30 an hour for class time.
“The variety of what Lincoln County residents are passionate enough about to want to share with their neighbors never ceases to amaze,” said Dave Price, the college’s vice president of engagement. “We strongly believe in the power of lifelong learning and the impact it can have on individuals and the community as a whole.”
Anyone with a passion for teaching and a desire to make a positive impact is encouraged to apply to be a community education instructor.
The fall term runs from September to late December, offering a flexible timeframe for potential instructors to design courses and accommodate their schedules. Some workshops are a single-sessions while others comprise 10-20 sessions over the course of the term.
“We’re happy to consider new classes of any duration,” Price said.
Interested individuals should submit course proposals to the college by July 13. The proposals should include a brief course description and relevant qualifications or experience. It is also helpful to include the site or sites where you prefer to teach – the college has locations in Waldport, Newport, and Lincoln City.
