Oregon Coast Community College is adding a new psychology degree that is transferable to any of Oregon’s seven public universities.
The two-year program will involve studying topics such as social behavior, cognition, research methods, and the biological and cultural foundations of behavior. Psychology is one of the nation’s most popular majors and can lead to careers in mental health, education, healthcare, business, social services, and research, the college said in announcing the new program.
After obtaining the degree and meeting university requirements, students can transfer to Oregon State University, University of Oregon, Portland State University, Western Oregon University, Southern Oregon University, Eastern Oregon University and Oregon Institute of Technology. Students will not repeat coursework already completed at the community college, allowing them to start their junior year as a psychology major, the college said.
“We are proud to offer this pathway to our students and our community,” said college president Marshall Mease Roache. “The Oregon coast deserves access to the same high-quality transfer opportunities available anywhere in the state. This degree gives students a clear, affordable path into a psychology bachelor’s program.”
Enrollment for summer and fall terms begins soon and interested students are encouraged to speak with a college representative to learn how the psychology degree might fit their goals. To schedule an appointment go to www.oregoncoast.edu/advising.
