WALDPORT – Drivers on Oregon Highway 34 should expect delays and one-lane traffic beginning in early June as the Oregon Department of Transportation works to remove and replace outdated guardrails.
The $4.6 million project will span from milepost 2.3 just east of Waldport to milepost 54.5 northeast of Alsea. Crews will work 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to ODOT. Flaggers will be present and speeding fines double in work zones.
Residents living along the highway should also prepare for construction noise, according to an ODOT news release.
In addition to replacing existing guardrails, new rails will be added where they are missing from the Alsea River Bridge.
The project has been in the planning stages for two years and is relatively inexpensive compared to most ODOT projects, said an ODOT spokeswoman.
