November’s rain totals were lower, temperatures higher than average

By the Lincoln Chronicle staff

It’s going to have to be a very wet December in order for the central Oregon coast’s rainfall total for 2025 to be even average.

As has been the case for much of 2025, rain totals for the Lincoln Chronicle’s Yachats-area weather watchers was below average for the month of November – continuing the trend for all of the year.

Combined with that were records set for high temperatures for the month.

Donald Tucker, who lives two miles north of Yachats and has been recording rain and weather patterns for 19 years, measured 9.66 inches of rain in November – just slightly below his average for the month. Tucker’s 11-month total is 55.93 inches of rain, four inches below his average for that time period.

Jim Adler, who lives three miles up the Yachats River valley, had 11.84 inches of rain in November for a year-to-date total of 68.39 inches. While his November measurement is only slightly below his average for the month “I can say that I’ll need a December total of 22.34 inches in order to meet a 17-year total average of 90.73 inches. Not preposterous as I’ve had three of them.”

As we all know, location does matter. Bob Williams who lives eight miles up the Yachats River valley, had 13.17 inches of rain in November which was 1.6 inches less than his average. But Williams’ total for 2025 is 79.98 inches – 11 inches more than Adler who lives just five miles to the west.

Julie Bailey, who lives on Horizon Hill just east of downtown Yachats, measured 9.91 inches of rain in November for an 11-month total of 59.76 inches – slightly above her 2023 total but 24 inches below her year-to-date total for 2024.

At the Yachats wastewater treatment plant, staff there measured 6.96 inches of rain in November – three inches less than its 15-year average for the month — for an 11-month total of 42.64 inches.

Adam Altson, who overlooks the ocean just west of the treatment plant, measured 7.62 inches of rain in November – 1.5 inches below his average — for an 11-month total of 45.99 inches.”

“This was my third lowest November rainfall, in 2019 I only measured 2.56 inches,” Altson said. “My year-to-date total remains my lowest though November, although it’s only slightly behind 2019, which was at 46.37 inches.

Other notes:

  • Tucker: Several new temperature records set including — 42 degrees as the highest low temperature in 19 years; 46.4 degrees for the highest average low temperature for November and 51.5 degrees for the highest average monthly November temperature in 19 years;
  • Bailey: Three days with more than an inch and nine days of temperatures of 60 or more degrees;
  • Altson: It felt unusually warm this month, and my temperature data bears that out. My high for the month of 69.1 degrees on Nov. 9 was my warmest ever November temperature. The low of 41.6 on the Nov. 19 makes 2025 only my second year that I did not record any temperatures below 40 in November.
