YACHATS — Traditionally held at the Little Log Church Museum, this year’s Valentine’s Day “Ceremony of Renewal and Commitment” will take place Monday, Feb. 14 at the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church.
Canceled last year due to the pandemic, the popular ceremony has been a fixture since 1996 at the Little Log Church, which is currently closed pending major repairs.
With the theme “Rebuilding Your Relationship,” the event will be offered at two times: noon and 5:30 p.m. Both married and unmarried committed couples are welcome to the ceremony, which will be conducted by Mary Crook, the independent minister who has led the event since it began.
“We are delighted the Presbyterian Church has provided the opportunity for us to continue our tradition of many years while the Little Log Church is closed for much-needed repairs,” said Crook, who is also co-owner of Yachats’ only bookstore, Books and More. “For some couples it is a first-time experience; for others it has become an annual tradition — something fun and meaningful to do on Valentine’s Day.”
Couples who attend will receive a certificate as a memento of the occasion, which will be conducted in the YCPC sanctuary on West Sixth Street.
Popular local guitarist Richard Sharpless will play a selection of romantic pieces at the noon ceremony; local singer-musician Dave Cowden will provide music at the evening ceremony.
Strict pandemic protocols regarding masks and distancing will be observed. The Valentine’s Day vow renewal has become a fundraiser for the Little Log Church Museum. A donation to the museum of $20 per couple is suggested.
