The city of Newport is getting ready to open its new Agate Beach neighborhood and dog park will have a ribbon cutting ceremony Feb. 9. The $800,000 project includes new playground equipment, parking lot improvements and landscaping.

The project was partially prompted by the extension of Northwest Biggs Street along the west side of the park, which is being done in conjunction with the building of the Samaritan Treatment and Recovery Services substance abuse recovery center.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the park, 185 N.W. 60th St.
