NEWPORT — The Newport Parks and Recreation department is seeking volunteers to help clean and beautify Big Creek Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25. The park is at 2510 N.E. Big Creek Road.

Volunteers will work alongside parks and recreation staff on a variety of projects including replacing playground wood chips, painting play equipment, replacing sand in the horseshoe pit, and general park maintenance.

All work will be supervised by city staff and participants must be at least 16 years old. Safety vests, tools, trash bags, and water will be provided. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and work clothes and are encouraged to bring work gloves and basic hand tools such as clippers or trowels. For safety purposes, personal power tools are not allowed.

“These volunteer days are about more than park maintenance – they are an opportunity for the Newport community to take pride in its shared spaces and invest in the places that make the city special,” the city said in a news release.
