NEWPORT — You can check out Oregon State Parks day-use parking passes at the Newport Public Library.
The passes serve as one-day permits for all state parks day-use sites that charge a fee to park.
While most Oregon state parks are free to access, the number of parks that require a fee has been steadily climbing over the years. In 2025, it increased from 25 to 47 parks, and in 2026 it went up to 69 parks. The 22 parks added this year included popular destinations including Devil’s Punchbowl, Brian Booth State Park, Fogarty Creek State Park and Gleneden Beach State Park.
The library’s passes circulate for a two-week period. Because only four passes are available, patrons must contact the library to place a hold before checking out a pass. Each pass is valid for one vehicle and may be used to visit multiple day use areas.
The pass can’t be used for camping fees, extra vehicle fees, or other charges beyond standard day-use parking. If a borrowed pass is stolen or lost there is a $60 replacement fee.
