A beautifully crafted wooden bench engraved with the word “Peace” now greets visitors to Oceanview Park just off the 804 Trail in the center of Yachats. Installed last week, city officials say the new bench offers a quiet place to pause, take in the view and enjoy a moment of reflection.
Oceanview Park is better known to locals as Peace Pole Pocket Park for the pole that marks its entrance off the 804 Trail near West Seventh Street.

Justin Kowalski, a woodcarver who has studios in Seal Rock and Tidewater, created the bench. The city contracted Kowalski to build something “artistic and natural” after it was determined the old bench at that location was deteriorating and unsafe. The $2,500 bench was paid for with visitor amenity and parks and trails funds.
