WALDPORT — Repaired, reconditioned and ready to roll — those are the rows of bicycles up for grabs Saturday, May 17, when the Green Bike Co-op stages its first open house and garage sale.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 320 Grant St., bargain hunters can take advantage of sale prices on bikes, parts, helmets and other accessories — all for at least 25 percent off. The bikes ordinarily range in price from $25-$150.
The rain-or-shine event is intended to help the Co-op move excess inventory — mostly children and adult bikes — donated to the nonprofit, which is a subsidiary of Seashore Family Literacy.
For over 13 years, Green Bike has been renting, selling and repairing bikes thanks to volunteers’ work. The co-op operates out of the former Waldport Heritage Museum at Northeast Third and Grant streets.
“The Open House was Senitila McKinley’s idea,” said volunteer Rick Hill of Seal Rock, referring to the leader of Seashore Literacy. “She thought we needed to be better known by the general public, and we thought this was a good way to accomplish that.”
The event will feature refreshments and live music by a ukelele band, plus rides around the neighborhood in a pedi-cab. There will also be a silent auction for a collection of bikes.
“People in Lincoln County have been generous in giving us bicycles, and we’re just out of space now,” Hill said. In addition to bikes, shoppers can find accessories like car-top bike racks and helmets.
He noted that as the day goes on, “Prices may drop.”
