Lincoln County Public Health on Saturday evening announced another person has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the county’s total to eight since March.
The county said the newest case is a person in their 60s who had contact with someone confirmed to have COVID-19. The seventh case announced Thursday was also said to be a person in their 60s who had picked up the virus somewhere in the community.
The county health department said the person involved in the newest case is not hospitalized and is isolating themselves.
Five of the county’s eight cases have recovered.
“Today’s announcement is an important reminder that COVID-19 is still spreading in Oregon,” said Nicole Fields, the department’s deputy director. “As we enter into Phase One of the reopening, it is important to continue to practice safety precautions.”
Fields said the most effective methods are continuing to physically distance, wear a face mark whenever possible, and wash hands frequently.
Lincoln County, population 50,000, has once of the lowest rates of positive COVID-19 rates in Oregon. As of Saturday, the Oregon Health Authority said there had been 1,042 coronavirus tests in Lincoln County.
Lincoln County’s previous cases involved:
- A person in their 60s who did not have any known contact with a person confirmed to have COVID-19.
- A person in their 80s who tested positive before an outpatient procedure.
- A person in their 60s who also acquired the coronavirus in the community.
- A person in their 30s who had no known contact with a confirmed case.
- A person over 80 who had contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
- A person in their 20s who had contact with someone outside the county confirmed to have the coronavirus and then tested positive.
- A Lincoln County resident who contracted COVID-19 while out of the county and was treated outside the county.
