To Lincoln Chronicle readers:
Just a short note on two topics to bring to your attention – one is a tweak to our operations, and the other is a reminder during this election season.
The Lincoln Chronicle has been sending a newsletter on Wednesdays and Friday mornings to people (there are some 3,060 of you!) who sign up to receive it. The email consists of one- or two-sentence summaries of all the news or feature stories published the previous 3-4 days. Although our news site operates 24/7, it serves as a reminder to many people to come take a look at our reporting.
Because we are carrying so much more news and features — including stories from our Oregon news partners — we have added a day to the newsletter. It will be going out three days a week – at 5 p.m. Mondays, and 5 a.m. Wednesdays and 5 a.m. Fridays.
We’ve also added some so-called convenience “buttons” to the newsletter that lead directly to some of our standing content such as public notices, the events calendar, obituaries and real estate sales.
If you have not already, you can sign up for the newsletters here.
Letters to the editor
Because it is election season, the Chronicle is getting more letters to the editor on candidates and issues. So these important reminders:
- Letters are generally accepted on local topics of potential interest to the community and are subject to the usual standards for decency and fairness;
- There is no official limit on the number of words, but letters will be edited for reasonable, reader-friendly length and clarity;
- The Chronicle is not Facebook. What might be allowed on some Facebook pages is not allowed on our pages. If you support a candidate or issue, tell readers why that person deserves their vote or why an issue needs support. It’s OK to point out differences between candidates, but don’t run down or attack opponents of your preferred candidate;
- Form letters will be rejected when it is obvious they are part of a larger campaign. Also, please do not send the Chronicle the same letter you may also be sending to other local media. Take a few minutes to change it up before hitting the send button;
- Most letters need very little editing, but there may be some for style and, if necessary, for clarity. If the letter isn’t clear or doesn’t make sense, I’ll send it back to have you try again; and
- Please email letters to [email protected] or send by regular mail to: Lincoln Chronicle, P.O. Box 284, Yachats, Ore. 97498. Letters will be verified, so include your city of residence and daytime phone number – but the number will not be published.
We hope you enjoy and value our local, professional reporting. If you have not already done so, sign up for the newsletters. And, be sure you are registered to vote and then do so when ballots are mailed in mid-October.
