Samaritan Health Services is offering two free workshops starting in March for people with chronic health conditions and for those at risk or who have type 2 diabetes. The workshops are at Pacific Communities Hospital’s education center in Newport.
“Living well with chronic conditions” workshop will meet for six weeks every Monday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning March 4. Developed by Stanford University, the six-session workshop can help people with chronic conditions learn how to take control of their health, manage medications, fight fatigue and frustration, deal with
depression, start an exercise program, eat well, manage stress, help control pain, handle emotions and meet goals.

The second workshop is for people who have pre-diabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes. It starts at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.
Called “Prevent T2,” participants will work with a trained lifestyle coach to learn skills needed to make lasting changes, including healthy eating, adding physical activity, managing stress, staying motivated and solving problems that can get in the way of change. Prevent T2 is a year-long program with weekly meetings for the first four months, and monthly maintenance meetings for the following eight months.
