NEWPORT — The city of Newport is holding a community meeting Wednesday, March 18 to discuss a proposed $38 million bond for capital projects. The open house will be from 4- 6:30 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Center.
The city says there are several projects in need of attention including adding more lighting and accessibility improvements to Sam Moore Park, addressing aging water infrastructure, and improving sidewalks and streets. The goal of the measure is to maintain safe, accessible, and modernized services while replacing an existing bond rather than adding a new tax burden. The city plans to structure the bond so that the tax rate is expected to remain the same as the current rate, according to a city press release.
At the open house, community members will have the opportunity to review potential projects and rank which they believe should be the city’s highest priorities. Staff will be available throughout the meeting to discuss project details, answer questions, and gather feedback.
People can drop in anytime during the event to look at displays and share ideas. The feedback will be used to help guide city leaders as they identify project priorities and consider the next steps for the proposed bond measure.
People unable to attend the open house can use an online survey beginning Monday to rank their priority projects. For more information about the bond go to NewportOregon.gov/Bond2026/index.php
