WALDPORT – The Lincoln County Public Health department is sponsoring its annual Hands Across the Bridge event beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at the interpretive center on the south end of the Alsea Bay Bridge.
The community is invited to stand with people in recovery, remember loved ones lost to substance use and mental health challenges, and celebrate hope, healing, and connection, health officials said.
“Hands Across the Bridge has been a Lincoln County tradition for nearly two decades,” said Sara Herd, the department’s health promotion program manager. “The event brings together people in recovery, family members, friends, behavioral health and recovery organizations, community partners, and community members to send a powerful message that recovery matters and no one has to face it alone.”
Participants will be led by Confederated Tribe of Siletz Indians drummers and join hands across the bridge. Following the bridge crossing, attendees are invited to the Waldport Community Center, for a free meal, speakers, resource tables, and family-friendly activities.
People do not need to be in recovery to participate, Herd said.
“Showing up matters,” said Herd. “When we come together, we help reduce stigma, strengthen connections, and show people that their community believes in recovery.”
