WALDPORT – Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County is seeking applicants to purchase a one-bedroom home it is building in Waldport.
Construction on the home on Northwest Fayette Street began in May and is expected to be finished this summer. The home will cost approximately $200,000 and is available for a household of up to two income-qualified applicants.
Applicants are selected based on housing needs, financial ability to pay a mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat. To qualify, household income must fall between 50 and 80 percent of the annual median income for Lincoln County based on household size.
The application process opens Jan. 7 and closes Feb. 20. Applications are available on the Habitat website at www.habitatlincoln.org, from the Habitat office by calling 458-277-7601, or by emailing [email protected].
Habitat for Humanity is a national nonprofit with chapters throughout Oregon with a focus on helping low-income families get into homes of their own. It uses grants, donations, proceeds from its resale stores and volunteers to construct houses that it sells at steep discounts and “sweat equity” to low-income families.
Habitat of Lincoln County has sold more than 20 homes to income-qualified buyers since it began operating in 1995. The nonprofit continues to require homeowners to put “sweat equity” into helping build their homes when possible. A two-adult household must put in 500 hours of work and a single adult household 350 hours. A could also have the option of working at one of Habitat’s ReStores in Newport or Lincoln City, or another Habitat approved local nonprofit.
The public can learn more about the ownership opportunity at an information session at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 10 at Café Chill, 540 N.E. Commercial St., followed by a 1 p.m. online Zoom session. There will also be a 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 session for Spanish and Mam speakers at Community Presbyterian Church, 485
