TOLEDO — Swords will clash when the Glastonbury Renaissance Faire, the only such event on the Oregon coast, returns to the Toledo Waterfront Park on Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29.
A purposefully immersive event, booths will be decorated in the style of medieval or Tudor England and demonstrators and vendors are required to do their best rendering of a Renaissance or Medieval costume set in the period between 900 and 1585 AD.
Attendees can enjoy music and songs from Renaissance performers, featuring the Tribal Rising Dance Troupe or laugh along with storytellers and see jugglers with interactive stage performances and belly dancers with drums.
Visitors can also experience live-action combat featuring medieval skilled warriors from Doom Medieval Steel Fighting or browse through an array of Renaissance-inspired crafts and jewelry and perhaps pick up a bottle or two of locally handcrafted meads. Apothecaries and herbalists will offer remedies, potions and handcrafted natural goods.
There will be food such as turkey legs and international offerings and baked goods, ice cream and treats.
New this year is the faire fare along with a glass of wine or ale enjoyed in an enclosed area by the water.
Interactive experiences and family fun can be had in the Children’s Kingdom, a special area with games, crafts, potato cannons and puppet shows for young lords and ladies.
And no faire would be complete without historical reenactments – watch scenes of medieval and Elizabethan life unfold before your eyes, like weavers spinning fiber into yarn.
The event grounds are even dog friendly for friendly dogs.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for kids and seniors and free for kids younger than age 5. Donate one canned food item to receive $1 off per ticket admission. The faire is open from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. both days.
