WALDPORT – A 48-year-old Yachats man is in the Lincoln County jail on $100,000 bond after disturbance Wednesday at the Waldport Shell station and a “high-risk” stop later in a Yachats neighborhood.
Christopher D. Reaves Jr. is charged with strangulation, disorderly conduct, harassment, assault and attempting to elude a police officer.
According to documents in Lincoln County Circuit Court, Reaves got into an argument with a station attendant, held him in a headlock and punched him and threatened and then grabbed the assistant manager as she tried to intervene and pushed her to the ground. Reaves is also accused of injuring an elderly customer who also tried to intervene.
The assistant manager also said Reaves threw grapes and coffee at people nearby, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Bo Douglas said in his probable cause report.
Douglas said that Reaves drove off south on U.S. Highway 101 and was later stopped by Deputy James Holmes at the intersection of King and Windsong streets in Yachats. Douglas said in his report that Reaves refused Holmes’ commands to stay in his vehicle, then was told not to return to his vehicle but did and then pulled onto Windsong street.
Douglas’ statement then said Holmes initiated a “high risk” stop in which he drew his gun and held it at a “low ready” position while Reaves got out of his vehicle, argued with Holmes and then began complying with commands.
Reaves pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday in circuit court, received a court-appointed attorney and is scheduled to appear again Oct. 24.
According to court records, Reaves had completed counseling and anger management courses in 2021 following a 2018 fight at the Sea Note restaurant in Yachats which landed him on bench probation for three years.
Doesn’t sound like the counseling and anger management worked very well.
