FLORENCE – A 38-year-old motorcycle rider was killed Sunday afternoon on Highway 126 three miles east of Florence when he was involved in a three-vehicle wreck.

Oregon State Police said the crash occurred at 1:54 p.m. when a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Brandon T. Oetken, 38, of Florence rear-ended a car as its driver slowed to turn into a mobile home park near Rose Hill Road. Police said Oetken died at the scene.

Police said a second Harley Davidson operated by John C. Moreno, 65, of Florence, struck Oetken’s motorcycle and slid 150 feet before stopping. Other drivers stopped to help the two injured motorcyclists, police said.

Police said Moreno was hospitalized with serious injuries and the driver of the car taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The highway was closed for an hour during the investigation.
