Ernie Niemi The Climate Crisis and Oregon An Economics Perspective Ernie will talk about his work with communities in numerous countries, helping us to understand the economic importance of healthy ecosystems, the economic benefits from actions that strengthen ecosystem health, and the economic costs from actions that degrade ecosystems. Ernie is President of Natural Resource Economics Inc., which was formed in 2012, following 34 years as vice president and senior economist at ECONorthwest. He is Co-Director of the Forest Carbon Coalition (FCC). He specializes in natural-resource management, economic development, and public-policy decisions. He has taught at the University of Oregon

WALDPORT – As wildfires consume hundreds of thousands of acres of land in eastern Oregon, staff and volunteers at Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue are offering landowners a chance Saturday to learn how to protect their property. The district is holding an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its main station in downtown Waldport where homeowners can learn about wildland fire preparation and prevention. There will be other firefighting organizations or emergency service agencies there to talk about defensible spaces, “go” bags, evacuation terminology and preparing for power outages.
