County Clerk Amy Southwell and Democratic-registered candidates for the three Lincoln County commission offices will speak at the Lincoln County Democratic Central Committee’s monthly meeting, Wednesday, March 25 at the Newport Public Library’s McEntee room, 35 Nye Street, Newport.
Doors will open at 5 pm and the meeting will start at 5:30 pm, concluding at 6:45 pm.
Amy Southwell’s presentation will include an explanation of the safeguards put in place to assure the integrity of Oregon’s mail-in voting procedure with an emphasis on the methodology employed by her office. That methodology includes oversight of ballot signatures and opportunities for partisan observation of the ballot-opening and tallying processes.
The meeting will also be addressed by candidates for the three county commission seats that will be on the May 19 ballot. Included among the invitees are incumbent Walter Chuck, running to retain the Commission’s Position 3 seat, Cristen Don, running to fill the commission Position 2 and Cathie Rigby and Cheri Brubaker, both running for the commission’s Position 1.
“Although the Commission races are ostensibly non-partisan, the work of our Lincoln County Commission is crucial to the welfare of all county residents and it’s essential that we elect candidates who share Democrats’ progressive values,” said Mary Infante, chair of the Democratic Central Committee.
