WALDPORT – An elderly Waldport man on his regular walk along South Crestline Drive was found dead early Tuesday near the entrance to Waldport Middle/High School.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that a preliminary investigation revealed there were no signs of trauma or foul play and on Wednesday identified the man as Dan W. Sagatis, 84.
In a short news release, the sheriff’s office said a truck driver on Crestline saw an elderly man laying on the shoulder of the road at 6:19 a.m. Tuesday. The truck driver tried to help by performing CPR, called 9-1-1 and deputies arrived to help with resuscitation, the sheriff’s office said, until fire and ambulance units arrived.
The sheriff’s office said Pacific West Ambulance paramedics determined at 6:58 a.m. that the man was dead.
Sagaitis, who lived in the Township 13 neighborhood, had been walking along Crestline regularly since heart bypass surgery several years ago, other walkers said.
I am one of the three regular walkers of Crestline in those early morning hours when Dan was out and about. He was always very sweet my dog and I. He seemed a happy fellow and I always watched for him so we could say “Good morning” to one another. The dog and I will surely miss seeing him every day. I hope he had a happy and fulfilling life. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
Thank you for sharing. Nice to know a little something about this gentleman. 💙
Dan merits another piece about his life in the community.
