The new Yachats Library will quietly open for business Monday, Dec. 29, for people to get a peek at the city’s newest building. While the bulk of the library’s collection is still in storage in Waldport, all the books and DVDs that had been housed in the Commons will be available at the 560 W. Seventh St. location.

After interior metal bookcases are installed in February, the remainder of the 18,000-item collection will be bought in from Waldport and the library will close for up to 10 days to complete the move. A grand re-opening is planned Feb. 28.
Beginning Monday the library’s hours will be noon to 4 p.m. Mondays; noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; noon to 4 p.m. Fridays and noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
The $1.35 million structure boasts 3,600 square feet, one-third more more than the original structure which was torn down in March and the new building constructed in eight months on the same site by Unitus Services of Vancouver, Wash.
